The touchpad emulates a standard PS/2 mouse, so just configure the kernel so that it supports PS/2 mice and you are all set. Howerver: The 2.1.X series of kernels (at least the ones I tried) did not correctly recognize the mouse when the 82C710 Mouse setting was enabled. If this is left alone, the "mouse" works like a charm.
